AMP: Smart fleet technology, built for the people using it

How APM partnered with Yoogo Fleet to bring real-time visibility, better data and a significantly lighter admin load to a nationwide fleet.

The vehicle is the office

On any given day, APM’s teams are in workplaces, homes and communities from Kaitaia to Invercargill. Running a rehabilitation assessment in a client’s home one hour, supporting someone into a job interview the next.

For APM’s clinicians, the vehicle isn’t just transport. It’s the office.

So when APM went to market for their next fleet partner, the brief went well beyond tyres and registrations. They needed real-time visibility to support staff safety, data to make better decisions, and a simpler way to manage more than 260 vehicles.

APM fleet snapshot

Leasing hadn’t occurred to Matt until a friend, also a business owner, mentioned it. “I saw this company called Yoogo online,” he says. “I jumped on one night and filled out the enquiry form.” Tim Johnston, Yoogo Fleet’s South Island contact, called him back the next day. He wishes he’d found it sooner. “Everyone says, if you lease, you don’t own,” Matt says, “but unless you can pay cash for something, you don’t own it anyway.”

Fleet size: 260+ vehicles across New Zealand

Workforce: Consultants travelling nationwide, often in remote areas

Previous approach: Manual, spreadsheet-based (200+ columns per vehicle)

Key outcomes: Real-time vehicle visibility, reduced admin burden, data-led decision making, improved safety oversight

From spreadsheets to real-time visibility

With clinicians working one-to-one in private homes and rural locations, driving is one of APM’s biggest risks. Teams needed to know where vehicles were at any given moment.

At the same time, fleet management was taking up a lot of people’s time. Spreadsheets with more than 200 columns tracked each vehicle. Multiple staff were tied up managing kilometres, servicing schedules and warrant of fitness requirements. All of it pulling people away from higher-value roles.

What APM wanted was simple: less admin, better visibility, smarter decisions.

A platform that connects everything

APM moved to Yoogo Fleet in 2025. One platform for everything: vehicles, telematics, servicing and reporting, with the technology built in from day one, not bolted on later.

New vehicles arrived with telematics units already fitted and connected. For a fleet of this size, that matters. No retrofit programme, no delays. APM rolled the system out region by region over six months, and positive feedback from the early regions created genuine buzz across the organisation.

The shift wasn’t just about new tools. It was about going from separate manual processes to a single, connected view of the entire fleet, powered by real-time data.

When visibility becomes safety

A few months after going live, that visibility proved its value.

A therapist hadn’t checked in after an appointment. Within moments, the team logged into the telematics platform, located the vehicle and confirmed she was safe.

That’s what connected fleet technology looks like when it’s doing real work. Not reporting for the sake of it, but keeping people safe on New Zealand roads.

“The real-time visibility of our fleet is critical for us from a health and safety perspective. Every day we have clinicians out on the road across New Zealand. When we know where our people are, we can keep them safe.”
Amy Tyson, CEO, APM New Zealand

From admin to insight

Where APM once relied on separate manual processes, it now has a clear, consolidated view of how its fleet is running. Servicing, kilometre tracking and compliance are all handled through the platform. The people who used to spend their days on fleet admin are now doing more useful work.

Because the telematics data flows in real time, it’s also changing how APM makes decisions. Each month the team reviews driving patterns, time in vehicles and speed trends. This is helping support safer driving practices, particularly around fatigue, a real concern when your people are covering long distances on rural roads.

The same data helps with tighter fringe benefit tax management, better vehicle allocation across regions and smarter thinking about the overall fleet mix.

Servicing in a few clicks

Yoogo’s Digital Concierge is the first automated fleet servicing platform built by a fleet company in Australasia, and it was developed in-house by the Yoogo team. When a vehicle’s telematics data signals it needs attention, the driver gets a message, picks a time and location, and books it in. Click, pick, book.

For a workforce where time off the road means time away from clients, that matters. Less chasing, less phone calls, more time doing the work that counts.

Smart technology, backed by real people

The technology got APM through the door, but it’s the people who’ve made the partnership work.

From the start, Yoogo’s team took the time to understand how APM operates, what it’s like for clinicians working in the field, and what they need from a fleet partner. That hasn’t stopped since rollout. Ongoing support, problem-solving, and picking up the phone when something needs sorting.

“We met the people and saw the technology, and we thought: these are our people. They really care about who we are and what we’re here for. Yoogo is a partner, not just a supplier.”
Amy Tyson, CEO, APM New Zealand

Better data, better decisions

With data now building across the platform, APM is looking ahead.

That includes planning for a lower-emissions fleet, balanced against the reality that a clinician can’t be stuck in a remote part of New Zealand with no access to charging. It also means using the data to think about whether pooled vehicles, rather than individual allocations, could work harder for the business.

With better technology and better data, APM isn’t just keeping vehicles on the road. It’s making smarter decisions about what comes next.
